04/01/11: Big News in Craftsterland! - NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER

Hey guys! Sweets and I have some super exciting news that we just cannot contain any longer!

We're both moving to NEBRASKA!

I know, I know, "Huh? Who cares what you're doing?" Cheesy

Well, hopefully you'll care, and maybe you'll join us! We're creating our very own permanent crafting community in the heartland; specifically in Craft, Nebraska! Oh, yes. It has finally happened! A place for ALL of us to unite, craft and swap!

This has been a few years in the idea stage for us, but we're happy to say we've finally made it official with the purchase of an absolutely amazing parcel of land! Oh, yes. We did it. We took the plunge and purchased land in Craft, Nebraska! I mean, who could ask for a better place for a crafty commune than Craft, Nebraska? Cheesy

This was just meant to be for Craftster! We couldn't pass up the opportunity. When the glittery stars aligned so perfectly, our parent company, Internet Brands, purchased the parcel for us to create the one and only...

CRAFTSTERLAND!

Annnnd on to the FUN stuff! What's in it for you? Well, we're going to have dorms and a subsistence farm on site. We're also going to be offering in-depth classes in tons of crafty disciplines! We'll be revamping the current farm as we plan to keep lots of different animals to provide us with a stream of crafting supplies. We've already gotten in touch with goat rescues and alpaca breeders, and we're hoping to add some Angora rabbits and chickens (for eggs and feathers!) to the mix, too!

In the coming summer months, we'll both be a little scarce around here because we'll be taking a lot of trips out to the site to get things coordinated and finalized. Luckily, there are already a couple of buildings we can use, but we'll need to oversee construction on expansions. As you might imagine, most land in rural Nebraska doesn't come with ready-built dorms and Craftster classrooms! Cheesy

Later this summer, both of our families will be relocating to the two residences currently on the parcel.

We will be offering housing and classes at a variety of price points to fit all Crafsterlanders! Part of the dorm building will have a common dorm layout [two double occupancy rooms attached to a shared bathroom]. We'll also have some large group sleeping facilities for those looking to save a little money. Wink

We've designed a large scale kitchen since we believe those who craft together should eat together!

Quite a few of the Moderators will be coming along, either as permanent residents or adjunct faculty. They will be posting their class descriptions throughout the day, so stay tuned and sign up early as we expect to fill up fast! Feel free to ask questions regarding the various classes on their threads. Sweets, myself and the Moderators/Teachers will be available to answer all of your questions.

So, who do we want coming into our little planned community? Well, you!* We are accepting applications immediately, but Craftsterland won't open until October 1st, 2011. Residency packages are available as follows.

Residencies:
Per day: $100
Per week: $300
Per month: $500
Per year: $7000
Swap for sleep: On a case-by-case basis, we will consider swapping crafted
items or farm assistance for a place to stay in the community

*with restrictions: Due to potential hurt feelings, no one with negative swap feedback will be permitted on premesis. Please do not attend, if you are highly allergic to goat hair, corn or have extreme sensitivity issues to hay.

Residency prices are for group rooms only. Semi-private rooms add $50. No in and out privileges. No refunds. There is a distinct possibility that your group room will include goat residency. Residency has been known to cause sleeplessness. Residents must agree to prepare one meal for the entire community, regardless of length of stay in the commune. Class prices not included in residency rates. Discounts do not apply Tuesday through Sunday. Must completed a minimum of five classes per week. Results may vary. May not use techniques taught in classes when off commune property. Do not question the authority of the class instructors. All classes are at your own risk.
