Oh poppet, how you thwart me!

Long ago and far away, my second poppet lost steam and then got put on the back burner in favor of some poppet swaps.  After #3: Poppet in Blue here and here, and #4 Calypso poppet #2 tried to make a come back with some funky white dreads. Geez, I can't believe that was September! Some time between now and then (over winter break is my guess) I swapped the dreads for something more durable because the girls decided they would keep her and name her Violet, in honor of the last color of the rainbow and decidedly more pretty a name than "Purple".

So here she is, Violet!

And just to show you the different colors and thicknesses of her locks:

As always, here is the link to the Ongoing Poppet/Punkin-Along.  Thank you ghilie for posting the pattern and getting us all started, and thank you for the tutorials from AlwaysInspired and craftewoman.

I'm dying to make another one and have a few cut out and ready to sew... but have to wait till this semester is done before I "get involved" with another poppet!  Thanks for looking!

Oh, she's so cute! Grin I want to scoop her up and squeeze her! I love the color that you used for her skin...I don't think I've ever seen alova in that gorgeous shade. Did you crochet her locks to give them that texture? It looks really cool.

Aw, shucks thanks inez! I'm so glad you like her because she's been such a long time coming and nothing seemed to fit right.  She's not alova - she's made of not-so-stretchy faux velvet in burgundy, and it had a very short nap so she's not so fuzzy but very compact.  Yes, I crocheted each single crochet lock 2x as long, folded it in half and sewed it down.  The thicker locks I started a second row, which also increases the curl, and gradually decreased to a slip stitch and wove the end in to make it tapered. The thicker locks are sewn down singly at the thick end.  She could use a few more locks but she's already pretty heavy and my oldest daughter snatched her away - after all it must be hers since she's purple, right? Cheesy

I'll have to look for something similar on my next trip to the fabric store, 'cause I really like the velvet.
