My sisters birthday is in April (& so is her name) and I wanted to make her presents this year. I did my first swap about a month and a half ago and it was the make a purse and fill it swap. I had a lot of fun doing it so I decided to keep to the same requirements and make one for her. She recently changed her style and asked for something in purple or orange and with bats or spiders. This is what I chose to do...
She likes messenger bags... I used napkitten pattern Swift Summer.

front

side

open. The inside has a zippered divider.
These are the extras I included...

matching coin purses

I added a book inside the bag and made this bookmark to go with it.

secret pocket pillow bat

with his mouth open

and fridge magnets!
I can't wait to give it to her! C&C welcome!
Now that I am finished I can start working on my next swap. Swapping is addictive!

Love it! The best bags are the ones sturdy enough to stand on their own and it is easy to see you did a great job on this one. The adjustable strap is a nice touch. Also the little bat is so cute with his hidden fangs Cheesy

The fabric was from Blake Riley's Halloween line called Eerie Alley. When I saw it I thought it would be perfect for her.
Thanks to everyone for your encouragement. I am always so nervous to give something I made away as a present. Thank you all so much!

The bag looks really well finished, and the fabric is just awesome! but the bat pillow has to take the prize, it's just adorable.
Did you use regular interlining for the bag? it seems really solid!

The purse pattern I got from napkitten patterns on Etsy. Great pattern. It tells you the exact interfacing to get, which is great for me because interfacing is my nemisis. But read the pattern first because there isn't a cut list and you have to cut stuff out as you go if you don't read it and take notes. The pattern is very user friendly and easy to understand.
The secret bat pillow is a variation of the anything but boring pattern for pillow animals. I forget the exact name of it. I added the wings and fangs to it. I thought it turned out cute. I give it all to her this coming Friday. I added a bunch of purple stuff to the bag to fill it out. Candy, notebooks, pens, and the such.
Thanks for all the encouragement. The more I looka the bag the more I want to keep it. I already have the fabric picked out to make myself one.  : )

hey there,
first of all, wonderful bag, wonderful fabric choice, wonderful bats! Smiley
i've seen the swift summer pattern myself, but for me i find the size of the bag a bit to big. i would like to make it like 70% of the original size. does anyone have any suggestions as how to do that? can i just convert the measurements given in the pattern? not sure if that will work out in the end. Huh
thanks for any ideas Cheesy

It's Pellon interfacing. I forget which one but I will look it up and tell you when I locate it. It was really stiff and worked amazing. It was on the bottom and the regular quilted Pellon was on the sides.
