So I received a few days agao, and much to the disappointment of both my partner and the organizer I chose to wait until the binding was on my own quilt before opening up my new MAQ.

I am so excited to share, that I have finally put the binding on and opened my package, and boy was it worth the wait.  It is so cool, and a lot of talent for a first quilt, I love the bold use of color and the nautical theme. Now I jsut need to figure out where to hang it, or maybe I will bring it to Nantucket with me this summer and hang it in the cottage.   Enough babbling, onto the pics!

close up of the 3-D elements, some jewelry findings for stars (very creative idea) and some gems)

the backing fabric, which was also used for embellishing the front a bit.

I love the different types of boats, and the lighthouse, reminds me of my summers on Nantucket

Thanks so much PurplePaisley.  And as a bonus, a little teaser pic for you:

Oh, I love all the new quilts. Great job everyone.

I REALLY love all the detail and "movement" in the night time nautical one. Great choice of fabrics.

Love the purple steampunkie quilt, sis! You did a great job, and I admire those handmade embellishments.

The nautical quilt is adorable! Just so cute and well thought out.

came home Saturday to a WONDERFUL surprise:

sloth003 took my "starry night" theme and "dragonfly" theme and made this BEAUTIFUL piece.  she used suede on the cat-tails which gave a fabulous texture, picked gorgeous batik and celestial fabrics which she knew i would love, and best of all: IT LIGHTS UP!!!! (will try to add some good "action shots" of the lights later)
some detail shots:
the 3D dragonfly (the wings are a netted fabric layered over the shiny, with seed beads all around the edge):

the cat-tails with some stars (inside the star is the lightbulb!):

more of the stars/moon with embedded lights (and one with beads):

and the back (where the wires were covered in puffy paint-it makes sense now!):

I am totally astounded by the AMAZING work that sloth did, and LOVE LOVE LOVE my quilt!!!  thank you for making it such a fabulous first swap for me Smiley
