we've all seen the inspirations . . . there was a commercial made felt rock rug, then etsy became swarmed with them, and a couple on here have tried it.  it popped up on the wist of a swapmate, so i decided to give it a try.

she stated to like earthtones, especially shades of blue and green, so i wanted my rocks to lean that way.

the rocks are all wet felted, most over wool yarn balls.  it took me for.ev.er.  perhaps why the finished product was a bit small.  i'm thinking bath mat.

killer project.  never again.

it's great!  I'm thinking the time consuming part is why I have yet to make one too..  Good on ya for giving it a go!

What did the finished rug feel like? How soft are the rocks? From that photo, I can't help imagining it would feel like standing on actual rocks, and just thinking abut it is making my feet hurt.

They weren't hard, but it is definitely not a walkway rug.  The smaller the rocks the better.  And note, there are not real rocks under the felt, they are yarn and felt only.
