She's not a recent project - just one that I failed to post her photo on the web.

She's small enough that she fits in my hand. Made with core fiber, Merino wool, glass eyes and hand dyed silk for her fur.

It takes me about a week to make one of these - furring is very time consuming! =^..^=

Woah awesome, you are really talented. That's so small it fits in your hand?? Is it squishy like a stuffed animal?

Thank you!!! Cheesy

Yes, it fits in my hand - she's probably about 6" in length.

No, she is not squishy. She's very firmly felted. It is easier to root fiber for fur if the piece is firmly felted. It is also easier to control the pose if the piece is firmly felted. I don't care for armatures and only use them if absolutely necessary as for wings on a dragon. Wink

Thanks!!  Grin

When I first started needle felting, I don't think I believed it was possible to make things like this either - I've learned a lot since then!! I haven't had the opportunity to make another Pritten (pretty kittens) in a while. I've been putting together classes and finishing my second book and then there are all the thousand and one things here at home which demand my attention. I really hope to get back to pushing my limits and doing more Prittens.

Needle felting is really versatile!! There are so many things that you can do and not all of it is time consuming. I hope you will consider giving it a try!!

Wow that's amazing. I just learnt needle felting today and had no idea one could make stuff like this. My first attempt at the core of a cat apparently was quite firm so I'm glad to read that that helps hehe.
I want to learn how to do the fur like that, it's just amazing

Thanks!! Smiley

Learning to control firmness is so useful! There are times when you want something very firm and other times when you don't and almost all the time you need to have a little bit of "give" to allow for making adjustments.

I think I have a little give because it's kinda of bendable right now but they did comment it was quite firm for a first timer. I can't wait to try out more.

Sounds like a pretty good firmness!! One of my friends had trouble when she first started needle felting because she was felting much TOO firmly! Smiley

wow she's stunning! I was just about to post one of my pieces I've done lately - the first part Im actually fairly pleased with - and then I saw her and now I'm not so pleased at all!

Would love to know how you achieve the fur effect?

I'm sure your piece is excellent, Feline2001!!

I use silk for fur and root it a few strands at a time. It isn't particularly difficult, but it takes a lot of time to cover a complete creature and sometimes (as with this cat) portions of the sculpture have to be furred before being attached- like the lower front legs. It would have been next to impossible to fur those once they were attached to the body.
