Despite never having altered an Altoid tin, I decided to join the Wicked Circus Altered Tin swap. I was pretty anxious about the whole thing but it was too fun to pass up.
I went with a wicked freak show concept for my tin. It's supposed to look like one of those traveling circus gypsy type cart thingeys
. I made ATCs that can be added to the tin to change the show.
Mr. Lime helped me cut most of the top of the tin out and I used rackycoo's awesome tutorial
to cover the whole thing in paper. I used a heavy paper american flag paper - the stripes felt circus'ey. I sewed the curtains out of quilting cotton and used floral wire to hang them. Thanks to some advice from Stifflersmom
, I blinged up the curtains with sequins and gems. The wheels are made from wooden spools that I painted and glued on.
Here are some shots of the inside and the ATCs that slip in. I added little ribbons to them so they are easier to pull out.
This one has a mirror on it so when you look at it, you're part of the freak show too!
And here's the back and a shot of the detail on the top.
I had fun with this project and am looking forward to making another one. I learned a ton!
Thanks for looking
