I haven't posted anything in a long while, but I was inspired to post this birthday card I made for my friend. After he jokingly replied "A TARDIS" when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, I decided to take him up on his word.  It took me a little while (and a little math) to figure out but it all worked out in the end Smiley

So, in case you didn't know, the TARDIS is the Doctor's ship/time machine. On the outside it looks like an English police call box from the 50s/60s, but "it's bigger on the inside". I wanted my card to work in a similar way, that when it opens up, it unfolds to a much bigger piece of paper than the outside would indicate.

This is a picture of the "inside" of the card. I made it out of 4 rectangular pieces of bristol paper, with thinner drawing paper strips between each one. The strips fold in on themselves when the card is closed and unfold when the card is opened. I added a flap to work as a kind of latch to keep the two loose ends closed when the entire thing is folded up. I wrote the message on the inside.

On the outside, I drew the TARDIS exterior. The pyramid top is a separate piece made up of four bristol triangles and a strip running along the bottom. The top of the bottom part of the TARDIS slips into the pyramid.
