So while I was pregnant we called the baby Sabretooth (a reference to the Calvin and Hobbes strip where it is decided that sabretooth tigers are the pinnacle of evolutionary excellence), so we figured she needed a tiger hat. 
I searched high and low for tiger striped variegated yarn, and found some on etsy (from a local seller no less) and knit a newborn hat based on this pattern.  I used a slightly different gauge but it turned out great.

Here she is 3 or 4 days old wearing the hat (Mr.kjlutz gets the credit for the awesome photo).
