Hi everyone!

This is a journal that I made out of recycled paper, sort of as practice, since it is the first book I have ever sewed, but I loved how it turned out, so I thought I would share it. I hope everyone likes it!

The corner, showing the rainbow pages!

Laying flat, with both covers that I painted.

Back cover, this is the only bit i don't like, I was all out of colored paint so I used fabric paint and it's a bit tacky still.

The side, I don't know what this stitch is called, I used the tutorial from Embroidered Books by Isobel Hall. I love how the spine looks, though.

Here are some of my favorite pages:

An enlarged copy of a squid I drew.

My valentine!

Yes!

Fra Angelico, or my lame art class copy.

And My favorite bit: A little pocket with a little pencil and...

A little tiny journal painted to match!

I'm not sure what to do with it yet, I think I might give give it to my friend. Does anyone else have a problem with not wanting to write in a journal after you spent so much time on it? lol Thanks for looking at the horrible amount of pictures! I hope you liked it, and comments or criticisms are welcome! <3

yes, I have the same problem!  I hate to "ruin" the pages with writing.  have you started it yet?  I think the tiny book to match is adorable.  i would like to copy your idea but I am sooooo inhibited by book binding.  guess I should find a tute.  did you use a tute?

Thank you for all your kind compliments!

no, I haven't started it yet, I've decided to give it away.

For the tute, I got A book at my library called 'Embroidered books' by Isobel Hall, another good book is 'How to Make Books' by Esther K. Smith. for a online tutorial, I would look on wikihow or search Craftster.
It's pretty easy, as long as you don't use envelopes. heh heh...

For the mini book, Here is a tute: http://shala.addr.com/print/minis/index.html I just made it out of a peice of paper and painted it, then I taped an elastic loop on it.

Hope this helps! Now go make your own!

Love all the different colors.  I've been tempted to make one of these for quite some time now.  I've loved every one I saw.

Larissa-Rasputin:
Thanks! And go ahead, make one! But do a little research first, there are easier ways to do it that I used.  Cheesy

I have one journal I made, which I just feel horrible about writing in Tongue While I made the cover as ugly as I could manage it's still heartbreaking to push the pen on the white pages.

Really great first try Cheesy continue practising and in the end you will have tons of journals you won't be able to part with or write in Cheesy

Haha I know! that's one of the downsides of handmade things...
Thanks! I've made another one already, much nicer than this one, but I didn't take pictures before I gave it away. Sad
