I'm not *completely* sure of where to put this post, but since the most work I did on this piece was the embroidery, I thought I'd stick it here and hope for the best! Cheesy

Anyway, this is a self portrait I did for an art competition!

I cut out the fabric pieces from fat quarters of quilting cotton, fused them to some white cotton I had from a previous project, and outlined them with some embroidery. I was going for a sort of quilted effect.

The zigzag stitching was done with a sewing machine, but it was still a load of work because I currently cannot locate my pedal! I sat there and cranked the sewing machine by hand. I went over each line twice, once forward and once back, letting it be messy (for a bit of "artistic flair").

The thick outline was done by couching. I really like this technique. You lay the yarn or whatever on top of the fabric and make little stitches over it to hold it on. I'm definitely going to use that on future projects.

I got a three out of four in the competition, and I'm very, very happy with how it came out! It took me a few weeks to finish, but I wasn't working every day.

Thanks for looking! Cheesy

Looks brilliant! Really bold and i like the slightly messy (in a good way!) double stitching. It stops it from looking too clean and graphicy- well done on the comp! x
