Hi everyone, I saw this flower from a Flickr user and was wondering how to go about finding a pattern that would achieve this same look. In a PM she said that she found the pattern online, but I think she modified it from that further and I'm not sure how to find a pattern that looks similar. I'm fairly new to crochet, so I don't know what techniques may create flowers like this yet. Does this look like a spiraled single piece or multiple pieces? What methods or terms are applicable to find patterns like this?

Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like a long piece with some sort of shell stitch, then edged with a different color in sc.  Once it's long enough, it's rolled into a spiral and sewn into place along the flat edge.

Its not exactly the same but here is a similar pattern for a rose,
hope this helps!

Also the best site I've found for free patterns is
www.crochetpatterncentral.com   They have a ton of rose/flower
patterns, your bound to find something you like there!

Sometimes it doesn't hurt to do something absolutely outrageous.
