Wow, really great work on the jellyfish.  I love the way you stitched the tentacles, and your work is so *clean.*

You did beautiful work with these! The Satin floss does misbehave, but if you dampen it a little, that can help.

Man, I wouldn't have expected satin floss to be such a jerk. The sparkly stuff is just awful, but the satin seems like it would be smooth and lovely. Nonetheless, you did a gorgeous job and I love the tentacle stitch you used.

Thanks, that's great advice. I still have the left-overs from this project, and while I never really want to work with satin floss again, it seems like such a waste not to use up what I've got - it's not cheap, after all.

Thanks! It is quite smooth, but the big problems I had were-
1) It does still seem to snag a bit - not nearly as much as the metallic stuff, which I used in a previous project - that was pure hell, and it didn't even look very good at the end of it all Sad
2) It's actually quite stiff - the individual strands really don't want to stay together. I usually wouldn't do much couching for threaded running stitch, because it holds up well by itself unless someone's poking at it, but I had to couch like frenzy this time because the strands kept separating and it looked straggly and gross. When I was doing normal sewing, the stiffness also meant it was really hard to get it to lie right - you can see I had some problems with the long-and-short, it looks a bit patchy when you compare it with my embroidered cat, who was almost totally long-and-short in normal DMC cotton.
I wondered too whether it simply didn't like being forced through cotton - I know when I'm sewing, I choose a thread that matches the fabric so that it doesn't snag, so I guess there must be some similar principle with embroidery. Perhaps satin thread works better on a satin fabric? I can't imagine embroidering on satin, though - I'd probably end up ripping it to shreds.
