This was the present I made for my boyfriend this past Christmas (although he didn't get it until after the new year). It was made from a dingy looking legal cases and tarts book that I bought for $2 at a used bookstore near my house. There were two so I didn't feel too bad about "vandalizing" it, I always seem to suffer with guilt about tearing them apart. This is my first finished altered book, but I've started probably around 5 or 6 before. I rarely finish projects that are for myself, but if it's for others it'll be top priority. So enough rambling...here it is.

It's slightly based off of the music video "All That I've Got" by The Used , which is a band I got him into. At first I bought the book just knowing I wanted to make him an altered book/box, then when my thoughts went from "hey I'll put lyrics in it from his favorite bands" to only lyrics from The Used I looked up that specific video which I only remembered having cool art that shoots out from behind Bert. Thanks to my subconscious I found the inspiration I needed to finish this present. The exterior is the book the boy looks into, the text is based off of the bookstore name and font, the interior has the "tree-like" silhouettes from behind Bert, and lyrics from the song around the picture of us, but changed to how he says them to me ("I love you...with all that I've got").

He loved it Smiley and I love that he uses it for all his "us" memorabilia. Let me know what you guys think

That looks really well done! I don't know the band but that is one professional-looking outside. The inside is nice too!
I always feel guilty chopping up books as well, so I choose ones that I know there are lots of copies of or that are close the worthless (like really damaged or woefully inadequate reference books).

Thanks mizzkodak, he loved it. And Calabaza, I completely agree, I asked the bookstore owner how long it was there and he said no one had even looked at it so it felt right, plus it was a really ugly green color. I lined the outside with a medium weight linen material and the red is a satin type material, I used LOTS of spray adhesives and mod podge, and of course acrylic paint Smiley
