There is a woman that is supposedly very adept at teaching soap making.  I am personally interested in learning beyond gylcerin soap and want to be taught how to make soap from rendered fat or lard, as it produces (in my experience) the absolute best results.  I believe she teaches this type of soap-making but I will double check to make sure.  She requires two or more people to register as can be found in the page here:

http://www.twotwelvearts.org/brochurewi11.pdf (you'll have to scroll down a bit to find Nancy Miller's soap making class)

This leads me to believe she charges a flat rate and the more people involved the better.  For starters if you are interested in learning how to make home-made soap the old-fashioned way just reply to this posting.  I just registered with this site so I don't know if there is private messaging or not but otherwise I'll bite the bullet and share my email address for us all to coordinate.  The best part is she does classes day, afternooon and evenings, so we can find a night that works with everyone's schedules.  I hope to hear back soon!!!   Smiley

That's actually less than a mile from my house.  I'd have done it long before now if I knew anyone else who would do it with me (and if she posted how much it was in the brochure).  I'd be interested in more information, and there is private messaging, though it might be disabled for the first few posts because of spammers.

So would you really go in on it with me!?  I would be soooooo happy!  I want to start selling my soaps and making them for gifts, etc.  It's such a great creative outlet (from what I've heard).  Plus, from an ethical standpoint, it ensures that as much of a slaughtered animal is used as possible (since we will likely be working with sinew to make tallow, something that is extremely cheap because no one else wants it).  My standpoint is that if the animal is already dead, we owe it to the creature to use ALL of it because of the sacrifice it made for us.  Okay, before I scare you off with my weird ethical banter, I will just say that if I don't see a PM option by tomorrow I will just bite the bullet and post an email address that I rarely use so we can privately communicate.  Also, if you are vegan, there are plenty of ways of making soap without even indirectly participating in harming animals (I'm sure you know that though).

Cheers!

Okay I talked to the woman and all we need to do is find a good time;  I am free during the day time as I have night classes.  The class cost is $55 but it would just be private instruction for the two of us---well worth it in my opinion.   I have the PM option I just looked.  Please get back to me ASAP, as she is calling me on Monday and I'd like to have some time suggestions for her.  I'm looking forward to this!

I'm free in the afternoon on Fridays (1-4pm), as well as on Saturday, but I work in the afternoon/evening most other days, and I have a Kindergartner around in the morning.  Sorry for the late reply. Work has been taking up a huge amount of my free time.
