The TARDIS lapghan! Oo wee oo!
«
on:
March 09, 2011 09:03:43 AM »
I've been crocheting for a few months and this is my first post on the crochet board. Yay me!
I made this lapghan for the Swirly Swap and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. I used
this pattern
that I found on Ravelry. It was super easy (and a little monotonous) once I got the hang of the rounds.
I used half a one-pound skein of black and two skeins of blue ombre yarn. The TARDIS is made out of craft felt. The inspiration was the intro to the
Dr. Who
TV show that shows the TARDIS spinning through a swirling wormhole of time and space.
I'm so glad my partner likes it. Thanks for looking!

Great work! Beginners always get the short end of the stick on monotony but it gets a lot better when you're confident with the stitches and counting. Though, counting has always been a huge issue for me even after 21 years! >.<

Wow... This may be the most epic lapghan ever. Or I might possibly love Doctor Who too much... nope. Thats not possible. So its the most epic lapghan ever for sure.
I'm adding this to my "yet another reason I need to learn to crochet" list!

Actually, it wasn't my first attempt. I tried out several patterns before I could find one that (a) made sense to me and (b) didn't develop a 'nipple' effect or ruffle on the edges. This is my first finished blanket, though!

The yarn is acrylic (I know, so plebeian) so it can be washed easily. The only worries I would have would be for the little felt pieces on the TARDIS which I just attached with Liquid Stitch, which is supposed to be permanent but is probably not. I would suggest sewing the pieces together and then the whole onto the blanket. I'm just inept at sewing.

Hi, love the Tardis rug/afghan/thing. Can you tell me what weight yarn and what size hook you used, and what the approximate finished dimensions were? I can't tell from the picture whether I'd want it bigger, smaller, or what. Thanks!

Gosh, it's been so long! The yarn is worsted weight Red Heart. I probably used an I hook (5.50 mm). I no longer have the blanket, but it was big enough to drape nicely over my lap. So, maybe a yard wide?
