Cardboard Butterflies

The assignment was to make a 3D image (he meant to stack pieces of cardboard for 3Dness but I took his words too literally) out of cardboard boxes

I had to rip the paper off cardboard to cut out the butterflies and flowers. I used tape to keep the shape of the petals and cement glue to glue everything on.
you can see the little mistake I made on the second board, I wasn't thinking and accidentally put the second board horizontally when I already put the first board as vertical (and there's an interlapping butterfly between the two boards). I ended up having to cut the inside of the cardboard out and replace it with a re-cut shape

Maybe art assignments are like poetry: what you get out of it is at least as much what YOU bring to it as what the POET meant in writing it. Your interpretation of the assignment is certainly lovely. (I misunderstood my master's exam assignment, too; my major professor said he liked the question I thought he asked better than the one he actually did ask!)

The "mistake" is my favorite part--I actually saw it and wondered how you made the lines go the other way. My college roomie used to say

"An artist is a person who takes a mistake and makes it look like it was supposed to be there."

You are an artist, in case you didn't know!

Oh, wow. This is amazingly gorgeous. I love the butterflies and I love how you fixed your mistake and made it work for you. You're so talented and I bet it took a lot of patience to do this. Kudos to you.

This is amazing, the mistake gives it a OH! factor that is just breathtaking, all those details and your teachers kind of 3d is pretty flat esecialy compared to this
