Ive been crafting quite a few Harry Potter items lately. I saw a howler the other day and thought how cute would that be as a ornament.  So after many trails and errors I got it right and here it is.

I plan to put this one on my HP Christmas tree this winter.

I felt like forever, but it was more like a couple evenings.  The hardest part was getting the shape and then covering it with the red paper.  But I love it and that makes it all worth it.

I love it, really beautiful.
But I'm pretty sure there already exists a tutorial for it somewhere, forgotten where it was but I have seen it around.

I just looked that howler up and uses wire. Mine is all paper, cardstock, tape, glue, and a little ribbon.   So this weekend I'm gonna try to set up all the templates and explain how I did it.  I'm so excited everyone likes it.  I'd like to do one with a sound button that plays the line from the movie, but I haven't figured that part out yet

I would love to make one if you do get a tutorial posted!  As for the button to make it talk.  Have you seen those greeting cards where you can record your own voice message?  You could just record Mrs Weasley on it and then put it in the howler.

That's a great Howler! I'm creating one in June from gum paste. I am a cake decorator, so my crafty mediums are sugar. Usually I just study the object I want to replicate and figure it out as I go. Generally, paper templates are easy for me to follow, because construction is basically the same for generall flat or folded objects. I found a fabric template here, which is helpful somewhat, but looks like I'll be winging it for the most part! http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/features/crafts/othercrafts/howler

Like I mentioned, my method would probably be similar to how you paper gals would make things, so if I can remember (and take worthwhile pictures), I'll share them here. Smiley

Thank you! It was a lot of fun making. I folded over two sheets of gumpaste over a cardboard template and curved and pinched it for the "curled lips", and when it was dry, I inserted rice paper folds that I wrote the message on with black color pen, and glued it down with water. I airbrushed over the edges and other areas to bring out the dimension. I gotta say, the Basilisk fang was my favorite piece though. Smiley
