the seasons of stitching

I stitched this hoop up for my partner in the IYP swap.... the tree design came from the doodle stitching book and the rest of it I designed along the way..... I used 2 strands of DMC for most of it, 1 and 3 strand in some places....





and a closeup of each of the trees..


I used a blending filament on the tree and for the snowflakes to get that icy look


little french knots for the spring buds, the rain drops were done with 3 different colors 1 strand of each


I felt like the leaves on the summer and fall trees to forever, each one is 5 stitches


for the basket I used 2 different colors and did a criscross weaving type stitch

I wasnt really sure which way to hang it...  I finally decided to place the hoop top on it so the earth was hanging the correct way... and then added little screw in hooks  above each of the trees so that it can be turned.

I used watercolor pencils for the tinting and was pretty happy with the way it came out.

thanks!!........ and I think its an 8" hoop, it could be 9"...... i dont remember which one I stuck it in...(how bad is that?)

I particularly enjoy trees and am fascinated by their structural elements. The turning of the seasons probably makes my camera wish it were a, I dunno, VCR? Anyway,  this needle point captured the seasons pretty nicely. Your little Earth is too cool. It actually looks like a little patch from afar. Nice work in that. I enjoyed the tree trunks immensly and also the different needle work to show the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Makes me wanna go stitch a tree! :O)
