I kept thinking about how cool this fish is...I mean the ol' angler has a built in night light...and scary as all *bleep*...sooo I wanted to make a more huggable version of him...and here he is.......

The fish body is made out of polar fleece...his fins are a cotton batik style quilters fabric...used doll eyes...the light stem is covered in a sock bit...and his teeth are made out of white eco felt...

This is the light base and armature...used a night light kit...garden hose for structure and to insulate the wire from the fabric 'n' polyfil...the orange cover is from an old toy that I found for a dollar at goodwill...wraped up in tape...painted the base blue...ta-da fish night light  Grin

An up close on how the light bulb cover works....the clear tabs keeps the cover on like a friction/snap fit situation...carved out the center of the orange ball with my dremel cause it had all of those screw tabs and structure on the inside where the old toy light used to be...just drizzled hot glue on the inside to diffuse the light a little bit...my dremel rocks  Grin

What a fanciful interpretation of a truly scary as *bleep* fishy -- great creativity and execution. Just FUN.

Tanza sure I can get ya the pattern of the fish...used a couple of file folders to make them...I could scan them clean 'em up in illustrator and send it out to ya...prolly won't be able to get to it until friday though Undecided...is that cool?

Cutsey Gnome...I got this kit at lowes in the lighting area were you can get replacement bits and bobbles for ceiling fans 'n' lamps...I used a low watt bulb the same that's in a night light because it does not  run as hot as the others but it gives off really good light...it has a pretty cool rotating on and off switch. Here is the pattern...or patterns for the angler fishy...

Profile of body and tail...

Chin and belly...

Fins...

Forehead...where the eyes would go....and upper lip/mouth....

And for the light stem I used a sock scrap...I guess you could come up with your own idea on how this part would look and pop it in at the top of his head...and as for the bumps on his head I had to put those on to cover up the light switch access area....with the teeth didn't use a pattern at all...just folded a white eco felt sheet in half and free formed the front teeth a lil' more fun that way...also the single side teeth where just cut out and hot glued on...and his lip was just sewn in after I assenbled him...at the base I used a draw string concept to gather and tie off the base...even if you don't want to make a lamp you could prolly tweek or taper the belly pattern at the square part to be sewn up and made like a regular plushie...and one last bit the side fins were labled wrong my bad(they look like a fan)...I used a basic cut and pinch seam to insert and sew the fins on his sides......hope you ENJOY!

And Thank You for your votes!!! Shocked Grin

I'm checking out previous challenges, and I LOVE your angler fish light! That is WILD creative ^_^. Do you keep really use it, or did you give it away/sell it?

I know they are ugly as sin, but I have a special place in my heart for angler fish. Did you know that the female is the big one with the lit head, and the male is a tiny slug-like thing that blindy sniffs out a female and when he finds one he permanently fuses himself with her tissue, becoming basically a parasitic set of external gonads? The more you know.

Anyway, I think this project is the coolest and I really want to make something like this, so I was hoping it would be ok if I featured it on my blog (credited and linked, of course). The article it is in is at http://sticktoyourglueguns.wordpress.com/2012/12/31/crafty-resolutions-13-crafts-for-2013/
