Gibbous Fairy Princess - TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS

Here is my newest poppet I made for FoxyBlue for the Invite Your Partner Swap. She likes fairies and the color orange. and FoxBlue has blond hair and blue eyes so that's where I started my inspiration from.

Headpiece – I used Donella feathers tutorial http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=364681.0
For the feathers I used 4 layers of the same sheer fabric that the dress is made from. I sewed them with free motions, sewing to a long piece of fabric. I layered feathers and fabric as I sewed, then added a couple foil cut out leafs and a button.

Eyes – I bought a set of 14mm glass eyes from eBay I made two holes where I wanted them on the face and pushed them in. Then I cut out two eye lids and added heat and bond to them, glued on the eye lashes on the edge then I ironed them down into place. I needle sculpted the corner of the eyes tight to hold them in place.

I made the dress in two pieces. First the skirt I measured my Poppets waist and added two inches on both sides, then cut out a two inch wide piece of fabric. I free motioned sewed layers after layers of sheer fabric and ribbon. For the top, I pinned a piece of fabric to my poppet and outlined the top onto the fabric, I added 2 inches on both sides then free motioned little squares of fabric and ribbon all over. Then I sewed the top to the bottom and added more fabric over the joining seam. When that was all done I pinned the dress on the Poppet nice and tight. On the back I placed the zipper over top of the pinned-on dress and outlined where to attach the zipper. I cut away all the extra fabric and then sewed the zipper on.

Wings - I made a wing frame out of wire. Then I sewed my organza fabric to the frame using my sewing machine…YES my sewing machine, I know there a lot of you that might think I’m crazy…but it works great. I used invisible quilting tread centred my wire in the middle of my presser foot and using the widest zigzag stitch. I pulled the fabric a little to keep it tight while I was sewing, I then cut the fabric off leaving about ½ inch border, then made cuts all around the border, then over a candle melted the fabric to make a feathery effect. I also burned some holes into the wings and then painted them with gold glitter.
