Hi!  First let me say, my dress pales in comparison to all the lovely things I see on this forum.

I did February's Thing-A-Day challenge.  This is a dress I designed and made out of black jersey knit.  I then sketched a design on it with tailor's chalk, took some soft/matte fabric paint and painted away.  The picture shown is before I gave the belt a second coat of white paint.

Thanks for looking  =)

Oh my gosh. I love the design on it! I wish I could draw. lol

It maybe simple, but it's still quite gorgeous and nicely done. Smiley

Thank you.  Smiley

It was more like doodling on a larger scale.  I bet you could do it!  And it's super easy to "erase" the chalk sketch if you don't quite like it.

love it! :-)

Just wondering if the fabric has stretch and if so what happens to the designs when it does??

It's flexible enough that it does well stretching. It's a little crisp but not to the point where I think it would crack.  While painting it, I stretched it a bit around some cardboard.  You want to make sure there's cardboard between the front and back because the paint does soak through the fabric but I noticed it's not at all itchy on the inside against my skin.

I must stay that I like the longer look a bit more. But the overall design is cute, the fit and how the sleeves fall. You're pretty brave to do white on black, unless you used really good paints, it mst have taken atleast 2 coats?

Yep!  It did take two coats.  I was worried about that myself.  I never tried anything like this before, but I remember my mom always enjoyed making puffy paint shirts (hey, it was the 90's) and while I really don't care for those, t-shirt paint has it's potential.  =)

Thanks for the critique about the length!  I'll keep that in mind for my next dress project.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Ah yeah!  That's really cute too.  =)  I like bold black & white prints.  They really pop.  I liked this one on that site too:

I love that we can get inspired by what is readymade and make something unique for ourselves!

I love a lot of the dresses in your links--especially now that I know the fabric can be painted and turn out so nice! Cheesy
