I never make it to Fiber Friday. Cheesy  I've had some of these ready for weeks and I just never get it together on that date, so I figured I'd just post my own thread. Smiley  I got my wheel for Christmas and I lurrrrrrve it so.  I've also decided that since I'm such a big fan of birds, all my yarns will be named after different species. Smiley  Click on the names to go to pictures of their namesake's!

Long-billed Curlew

I'm sooooooooo proud of my plying!

Whibrel

Strix varia

(It's the latin name for a Barred Owl. I just love the latin name so much!)

Pacific Parrotlet

I'm obviously not very great at plying with thread. I think I was much more successful plying with yarn!

Nicobar Pigeons

Two skeins from the same bit of roving. I should probably think about combining them...

I'm sorry I don't know/remember what any of them are made of.  The naturally colored yarn came with my Ashford, the colored yarn is all from lapoli. Smiley  I also don't know how many yards are in each... I should probably work on that. Tongue

Gorgeous!  What a great idea to have an overall bird theme for your yarns.  I love that you included a link to each namesake -- I hope you'll continue to do that with future yarns!

Did you decide on the bird first and spin your yarn to match, or did you do it the other way around?

BTW, the nicobar pigeons are really cool-looking birds.  I'd never heard of them before, but they are beautiful.

I hope I can keep naming them this way! Some of them are not coming easily. Tongue  I've spun the yarn first and THEN decided on the birds, BUT I've also never really bought roving! Everything I have either came with the wheel or was a gift.

Aren't they gorgeous?! Those feathers are iridescent, too so in different lights they look differently.  In some of these pictures the feathers are fiery red!

*blush* Exciting!

This is also the push I needed to get these next yarns posted. I've literally had them done since May!  Lips sealed

I believe this is the first merino I spun and it's so so yummy and soft... mmmm....

I'm working on a few more that hopefully won't sit around as long as these have!

I honestly haven't made a single thing.  Embarrassed I think I'm trying so hard to find the perfect pattern that I won't just pick something and go with it! I'll need to get over that soon though. I'm running out of space in my yarn storage.

About how much yardage is in each of your pieces?  Enough for a cowl or a hat?  I am afraid I would never be able to let any of it go... Cheesy

Here are the skeins I sent to insertusername in the Handspun and Handmade Roudd 5 Swap! (These are insertusername's images because she took some great ones!) She said she loved zombies and mermaids so these are based off of those suggestions but still named after birds.  Smiley

The first is the zombie inspired yarn. I believe it's merino. I named it Takahe, since the Takahe is a Lazarus species, which means that it was thought to be extinct but was later rediscovered. Basically it was brought back to life! Wink

The second is a set of two skeins called Wandering Albatross. As you can see this is the set based off of mermaids. I named it Wandering Albatross since they spend up to 80% of their lives at sea. It's Wensleydale plied with an iridescent thread. I will say that I will never purposely buy Wensleydale. I absolutely hated spinning it! It turned out well but boy was it a giant pain.

I have a handful of other new skeins but I don't have them all named quite yet. Hopefully I can post them soon! Smiley

These are all gorgeous! I agree with HSG, the egret looks so soft and beautiful. It's so...egretty! It also helps that egrets are my favorite birds. I love the albatross colors as well. I love the bird themes.

So, if you forgot (Cheesy) I name all of my skeins after birds! So go to the link of the bird name to see the corresponding bird.  I've had some of these done since FEBRUARY at least, just waiting on me to name them. I need to get over that need to find the perfect bird match! Dumb OCD tendencies. Anyway, onward!

Yellow-fronted Canary
This is navajo plied. I love it! There's not a ton of it but it's awful pretty. I sort of just wanted to name it "Confusing fall warblers" but I didn't. Tongue

Princess Parrot
So this basically only looks like the face of a Princess Parrot but c'mon. PRINCESS PARROT. Cheesy  I love this little single! This is the first of my handspun that I tried to knit with. It knitted up fine but I didn't check the gauge and now I have one fingerless glove that MIGHT fit a small child.  Roll Eyes I think I'm gonna put it in Stitch and Botch at some point.

Pink-necked Green Pigeon - meh. not sold on that name.
My first thick and thin single!  Shocked I'm amazed I did it actually.

Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher
It could be argued that that bird is actually grey and green and not lilac and yellow... oh well.  Cheesy There aren't exactly a lot of birds with this color in the world! Anyway.. it's just a simple two ply (I think, it's been a while!). Smiley

Summer Tanager, first year male.
This is a pretty tiny skein that's SOOO hard to photgraph! It's so bright. I believe I navajo plied it.

Mourning Warbler, female
This one is tiny but I'm really happy that I spun a pretty balanced single! I usually have to ply and even then they aren't as balanced as this one. Smiley

Rufous Woodpecker
omg I'm so in love with this skein. It's so giant and fluffy and BALANCED. It's dying to be poppet hair. Too bad I've never made a poppet. Tongue It's been hard to get an accurate photo of it. Maybe one day I'll put in a better one.

Big!

Rufous Treepie
This is one of the only skeins I've ever done with a particular bird in mind. I was already spinning the Rufous Woodpecker and was looking up birds and found this one. As luck would have it I still had more of the rusty fiber left AND black and white. I spun a single of each rust and white and rust and black and then plied them. I <3 it.

I swear that's all I have for now. Cheesy Hopefully I'll update again in less than 8 months.  Tongue

I wanted to show everyone how beautiful your bird yarns make up!

Here is the one called "Yellow-fronted canary":

There was not a whole lot of yardage, but I managed to make a small neck scarf...it is stunning in real life! Cheesy
The colors and textures make it so yummy...
