I made an altered book for my local chapter of The Harry Potter Alliance. They have a library display case for the month of March. Since we are currently doing a book drive as well I thought this might be a cute addition to the display rather than just pining up a flyer.

I started with an old outdated encyclopedia from freecycle. I didn't alter the books cover since it will be on a book stand on display, but I figure that once it comes out of the case I might make a more complete one with a new face.

I used hot glue, mod-podge, printer photo paper, a scrap of ribbon, and a few beads salvaged from a necklace.

This was the first time I've done this before but it was a lot of fun.

This is the book open (it's sealed this shape, open and flat) on a bookstand.

Top of the book. I loved the way the pages shaped. You can also see the bookmark here.

And the bottom of the book, complete with bottom of bookmark.

This is the back of the book, and technically the before, though the back is still the same for now.

I don't know anything about Harry Potter, nor do I know that an Allegiance for it is, but I am in LOVE with the idea of setting this book up like this instead of hanging a flier. That is SO smart and wonderful! You did a great job!

Smiley Thank you.

The text on the book reads:

The Harry Potter Alliance (HPA) is dedicated to using the examples of Harry Potter to spread love and fight the Dark Arts in the real world. Our chapter here in Northern Virginia is named Carpe Futurum, aka Seize the Future, because we are committed to making the future better in our community. Were a real-world Dumbledores Army--join us!

and more!

And then has our contact info. If you are curious about it you can search for it. I'm sure I'm not supposed to put links or anything like that here.

Great idea.  That is much more catchy than taping a flyer to a window.

Thank you Smiley

I was super excited about how nice the window display turned out with it.
