I started painting heels about a year ago. I have made a total of 4 so far, but only have pics for 3 of them, as one pair was a gift and I forgot to take a pic before I sent them across the country. They are super fun and easy to make and people seem to really like them. I get lots of compliments and requests to make them for people.

Here is the first pair. I used references from other peoples artwork and photos I found randomly through Google image searches. The goat looks very similar to a Miss Monster piece, though this was not intentional, just covering my bases. They are not for sale and other than posting pics of them here and on reddit once, they just sit in my closet Smiley

Second pair I made, on which I also painted the little button to match:

Third pair I made for my friend from work (it's a bad cell phone pic, sorry):

Here is a link to my imgur album that has a little step-by-step set of pics so you can make some too!

Wow! I love the first ones so much! How well does the paint hold up? Do you use varnish or mod podge?

Wow, thanks everyone! I'm glad you all like them and I hope you go and make your own pair. I don't wear heels hardly ever- they hurt my tender footsies and I'm not a very "girly-girl" and I don't have a good reason to dress up very often. Which is why I didn't mind risking ruining the first pair I painted, since I don't really use them. I do wear heels more now than I used to because they just look so cool, and I admit that I like the attention that the added decoration causes Smiley

As far as the type of paint and varnish..yeah, I just use cheap craft acrylic paint and an acrylic water based sealant. I used the same sealant I use to seal my canvas paintings, mostly because it was all I had around. I am not sure how long the paint will last on the shoes, since like I said, I don't really ever wear mine (maybe once a month or so). I have not seen any noticeable wear or cracking or flaking or anything. Both the goat ones and the one with the buttons still look exactly like they first did.

If anyone has any better ideas on what kind of paint and sealant to use, let me/us know! It would be cool to start selling these in my local second-hand punk rock store. I would just feel bad selling something that might not last long :\

Decoupage should work. Just try it on a pair of shoes that you don't care much about first. Hit up a thrift shop and get an ugly pair for a buck or so.

Although, painting these isn't too hard. The way I do it is I trace an image from a piece of paper onto the shoe and then just paint them like a coloring book. There isn't any shading or blending colors or anything like that.

Fantastic work, and killer heels! I'm on my way to the thrift store right now to see what quirky heels I can find!

My boyfriend just found a tub of acrylic paints at our storage unit that someone just left for garbage--and now I know what to do with them. Cheesy Thanks for sharing these with us, LOVE 'EM!
