I'm sorry for answering this so late! There are only slip stitches in this pattern, everything else is a slip of a non native speaker who sometimes confuses similar sounding words - for which I apologize too!
Hope you could figure it out from guessing!
Off to correct that mistake in the pattern now!
Thanks for bringing it up!

OMG! This pattern is just PERFECT!

At first I was like 'what the hook?!' As it took me a little while to figure how everything worked (begginer here!) but now i'm soooooo excited about how it turned out that i think i'll only crochet those for a while...  Tongue Thank you soooo much!

All sizes, technically!

You need to keep an eye on the size you want to come out with when you do the top part with the increases, or change your yarn or needle size.
I recommend having your measuring tape or size reference around while doing the increases, and comparing your WIP to it after each round, that'll give you a good idea of how to size it.

In the beginning, it's important that your number of stitches can be divided by 6. Later on, you'll have to divide the stitches into four parts, give or take one stitch here and there. Those are necessary for getting the pattern on, but the actual size isn't fixed at all.

Making a very small baby hat would probably take you to the limit of the pattern even with thin yarn, but all that could happen is that you'd have to freestyle the stripes some more. I've seen plenty of hats with freestyle stripes, they look great.

With the new movie coming out, everyone is excited for Star Wars stuff again!

I bookmarked this pattern and now I am sure that all of the kids are going to want one!  Thanks again for the pattern...maybe I will have time to get started while everyone is watching football this holiday weekend! Grin

I wore mine at the movie Wink
Unfortunately, because of the christmas rush I didn't have the time to make a matching BB8 hat for the kids (who am I kidding, I'm making one for myself too). But I still want to have matching hats so that's on my to-do-list. With bulky yarn, or 2 strands held together, a nice squishy hat should work up pretty fast.
I'll definitely post a pattern when I make a BB8 hat! I'm already agonizing over unnecessary details Wink
