Glad I could give you and excuse to go yarn shopping I always see something that could still be made more movie-like, but then there's only so much time you want to put into them if you know you'll end up making half a dozen I guess with some embroidery or thinner yarn... but yeah, it's okay like this, if you look at the first picture, you can see I modified the pattern there because I was able to work in more detail, just get yourself some pictures or a toy and improvise along the pattern.
I'm really happy someone is making something from a pattern I made. I'm not even certain I have posted patterns before.

This is so great! My sister wants one, but I am stuck on step 3. (likewise *2dc, 1dc*, work the last loop of the last dc, sl st) Is this meant to be a 3rd round of blue with 2dc in each dc and then 1dc in the next dc (then work around repeating)?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to say. If you use a very bulky yarn, maybe two rounds of blue are enough (that's what I did in the two chunkier reference pictures, maybe that's why it's confusing). Make certain that you always end up with a number of stitches that can be divided by six, you'll need that for later.

The hat is really not hard to make, you only need double crochet. They're easy, and also pretta fast.
Hehe, wait til you make stripes and need to transport the unused yarn with you, then you'll see how things can be technically totally easy and still somewhat annoying I won't tell you how often I forgot to take the yarn and had to redo some part But it's not hard to do, because other than knit intarsia, you don't have to care about the tension of your yarn very much.

This is awesome!  I've only ever seen knit patterns for hats like this, and I'm not much of a knitter.  I'm going to have to make one of these for the boyfriend, he'll love it.

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am on round 11 and I have an R2D2 dinner plate. Hmmm.

It's okay when it's flat while you're still increasing, but when you've stopped the rows with increases and work normal rows (which you should be doing by now) the curving process should be visible.
If the hat's flat now, take a tape measure and measure around - too big? You should stop making increases when the "dinner plate" is as big as your head.
