I can't wait to try this!  I may add some flax seed as well, and was thinking about different add-ins...I think raisins would be great, and maybe some dried apples and cinnamon...now I'm getting so hungry, lol!  Bookmarking this and will hopefully get to try it out soon.  Thanks!

I'm thinking S'mores with mini marshmallows, graham cracker pieces, and chocolate chips. Ok maybe that batch will be "dessert bars" instead of "breakfast bars"

You don't have to use oats. You can use extra coconut or nuts or fruit or chocolate chips, or you can sub in puffed rice or puffed wheat or another cereal he can eat, or you can use chunks of graham wafer cookies, or...

these are DELICIOUS!!  I made a batch to take on a flight/to school and they held up really well, and were very filling, which was great for those 4 hour flights when i refused to buy their over-processed gross food 
I made mine the same as the original, except I used dried cranberries and pineapple instead of raisins and choco chips, which turned out super yum
I do have a question though...mine developed a weird sort of...layer on the bottom.  It seemed to be milk that had sunk down and sort of...caramelized?   It gave them a bit of a peanut-buttery taste, which wasn't bad at all.  Guess i"m just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and what might be done to prevent it!  I would be afraid to leave out some milk, since they were already a wee bit dry on top...

They are very satisfying!  I too get caramel bit at the bottoms sometimes...not a lot, but I know what you are talking about.

In the beginning, before I started adding chocolate chips, I would heat the sweetened condensed milk slightly (not to a boil, just really warm), and then dumped the rest of the ingredients in the pan and combined.  It helped with the bottom, but it melts chocolate.  Since the bottoms didn't bother me or my family (and I hated cleaning yet another pan), I now skip that step.

I would love to hear if anyone else has a solution...even if it involves another pan.
