I've been playing around with felt making for awhile and decided to tackle a massive project.

I bought undyed wool and silk and dyed it myself, played with colours and made these mitts as a test
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=365727.0

Then after much planning, I made a giant piece of felt, and sewed this jacket out of it (I'm not quite there to make something seamless yet)

I fully lined it as well

And now some pictures of the process for those who are interested!

First I lay down my bubble wrap and my plastic, and drew out the pattern pieces so that I would have an idea for colour matching.  I also lay down tulle and felted the wool into the tulle for added strength

Then I lay down all the wool, took about 2 hours
Then I "painted" the wool with my dyed silk and this shiny string stuff

This is the size of my roll!

Felting and fulling took well over 4 hours

Then I was left with a large piece of felt!

Once the felt was done I washed it with fabric softner in the washing machine, cut out my pieces and made the jacket!!!!!

It was a ton of work, but so worth it!

Comments, questions welcome!

Cheeeeeers

Nuno felting next!

Holy cow!!!  This is incredible!!  I'm going to find a hat and put it on, just so I can take my hat off to you.

First, I have to admit I know next to nothing about wool or felting. I had to look up "fulling." But this is just lovely as a finished product, and how wonderful that you made it, quite literally, "from scratch." Thanks for showing how you did it!

Wow.  You are obviously quite talented.  The jacket is beautiful first of all.  And, then, when I see the work that went in to it......Wow.

That was a lot of work, but so worth it!!  It's unique, fits well, beautiful color, and I even like the buttons and the lace on the sleeves!
