My 4 year old girl loves lip balm so much that she practically goes through an entire tube in a day or two...which has had me extremely concerned.
I've thought to myself, "What's in this stuff?"   

Deciphering the label on the tube she'd been using most recently, it's practically Greek to me, so I get the idea that maybe mixing up something here at home with all natural ingredients would be possible for a mom like me to do.


I learned the how to & read up on the various oils & stuff that went into doing this from various sites...including craftster & today I whipped up a batch!


I even experimented with various flavors...and my house smells just like I'd made Grandma's Christmas candy! Flavors I used were non flavored, peppermint, sassafras, bubblegum, strawberry, and one blueberry one for my mother in law! 

The lip balms turned out fantastic! They glide on smooth, moisturize well, and taste fabulous! I accomplished what I set out to do! Yay!
I'll definitely be doing this again!

I'm so glad you like the photos! My other computer died in December & I haven't quite gotten the hang of this one yet!

To answer your questions, yes, I found the tubes online. Did a search to find them relatively close to me so I wouldn't have to wait that long to receive them, but then the snow & ice came last week. LOL! Ah, well.
It was SO easy! I just altered a recipe I'd found based on which oils did what & melted it all together in a pan within a pan of hot water on the stove until all the oils were melty...stirring with a chopstick, then separated the batch into smaller dishes within the same pan of water...so the oil didn't set up while I added my flavorings & sweeteners. I then used a warmed syringe type of tube thingy to inject the liquid oils into the tubes. You can ask for them at your local pharmacy. Lucky me to think to ask for one while refilling a prescription over the weekend.
The balms set up within about 20 min to a half hour! Super fun!

I also laughed when I read: "Flavors I used were non flavored..." Now I'm pondering that... non-flavored as a flavor!! (And now I've said flavored so many times to myself that the word has lost all meaning !)
