Anniversary Quilt

This is my favorite quilt that I have made not as much for the look of the finished product, but the meaning.  
I thought about posting while I was making it but never got to it.  I have been meaning to post photos for a loooooong time.

I made this King size quilt for my husband for our 10th Anniversary.


This is my first post of a quilt.

I was going for a very scrappy look.
For the top, I pieced one piece of fabric for every day we had been married.  That’s a lot of pieces. . . (3653, to be exact--don’t forget the leap years.)


I used fabrics from our life together, leftovers from projects I had made in the last ten years, pieces of his work shirts, my kids favorite clothes, and even my wedding dress.
Soooo, it has everything from faded camo to dora and a bit of silk.

I machine pieced it.  I rented time on a long-arm to quilt it.  This is the only time I haven’t used my machine to quilt.  That was frustrating because it was by the hour.  (It was also the most expensive part of creating the quilt.) I quilted in the “show me how to machine quilt” style.  I used free form, doodles, and phrases to quilt(love is patient. . .  dates, music notes, etc.)








I pieced a label to look similar to our wedding attire (and I used some of my gown for that, too.)







I managed to keep this monster a surprise!!!  I had to hide it from my kids, too so they didn’t spill the beans.
Luckily there was a VBS a few weeks before our anniversary and I was able to spend five mornings focused on getting the top together.

What a beautiful gift!  I do appreciate the work that goes into "art quilts", but to me a real quilt is a patchwork quilt.  Yours is just so gorgeous.

WOW! That quilt is massive! I love it! The pinwheel design is one of my faves. I showed this to my hubby (we're coming up on our six year anniversary), and he's seen me quilt, so even he can appreciate the time and effort that went into this. It's so gorgeous! Great job!
