So I really wanted to participate, buuuut... I was feeling so uninspired and some of the entries are MAJORLY awesome! Then I was staring at my freshly washed thrift goodies that I'd bought to refashion anyways and BAM! It hit me.



This bad lil boy's shirt (size 6x) so needed that neckline cut out and trimmed with chain!



Then I realized there was a hole in the front... Aw *meep* So I chopped it off and girled it up

LOL, Knickertwist I'm not exactly in the best shape of my life, either, but for those days when the temp is pushing 30 Celcius, shirts like this are nice to have! If you like the concept and want to make one, you could try using two shirts, one for the cropped portion, and the entire body of the second shirt cut into strips for the ruffle. My ruffle was cut at 3.5 inches wide (4 pieces that were slightly shorter than the width of the shirt), but there's nothing stopping you from cutting 10 inch ruffles, or larger

Ooo, neat! Dumb question: did you sew on the chain? I can't see any stitches. And does it keep the fabric from unraveling or did you have to finish that edge first?

The chain was hand stitched onto the neckline with green thread, and I tried my best to hide the stitches under where each link meets. The awesome thing about knits is they don't really unravel unless you purposefully shred them. They unravel much like a run in pantyhose. The chain is actually tighter than the neckline by a tiny smidgeon, so it actually keeps the raw edge from rolling outward.
