I managed to find a matching suit in this print, the top was even more hideous, a scalloped edged puffy sleeved number, but I just used the ankle length poufy skirt for the dress though, it cost me a $1 a piece cool huh?

I used a tute from Burdastyle (and on here too I think)   http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/contour-bust-dress-and-tute

The brooch is also made from thrifted items, I bought a bag load of ugly and tried out a couple of ideas before deciding on this one.

Here's the ugly before shot, I wish I'd got my husband to take a photo of me in this because it was hilarious on!

Hope you like.

That fabric was crying to be a fabulous sun dress!
I love the colors and the pattern, plus the flower was a nice touch.  I adore the white piping / trim along the edges - that stuff scares me.  Tongue

Aww thanks ladies, and don't be scared of piping, it is so easy to sew, it has a line of stitching you can follow and you just line up the raw edge of the piping with the raw edge of your fabric piece, then just stitch in the ditch, wammo you've just sewn piping!!

It's so unfortunate that someone would dream up, design, create, wear, and buy that in it's original form Sad   I can't even fathom how you made such a cute dress out of that horrible skirt!  SPECTACULAR job!  This rocks!

Really lovely dress and fantastic remake.  The neckline and piping sets it off perfectly!

That bottom skirt is definitely not flattering... even on the floor, hahaha! I too regret that your hubby didn't get that shot of you wearing it. In any event, you obviously have an eye for a great print and you snatched it right up! Good girl. You really made a nice little summer doozy out of that trash-bag-looking skirt. I must say that the flower accent really finished it off well. Nice job! I would be happy to wear this and while wishing for a ticket to Hawaii. :O)

This is adorable. I also wish I was a better seamstress. I can get by but sewing in a straight line is not easy for me. Or cutting in a straight line or drawing...

It's from a thrift store but it was originally part of a matching skirt suit that looked very much like traditional Nigerian dress suit.
