Well i hope i have made the deadline as i dont know weather you are ahead of me or behind me but i haven't been able to post this project as i have been having camera problems, if i have missed the deadline oh well never mind it was fun to make and i will try again next challenge.....any ways to get to the point
i turned This;
a pair of stiff crusty old pastel green curtains i(£4) and a hideously overpatterned flowery shirt (£3) in shades or mauve/pink that looked like Dylon had exploded on it and was so small i doubt it would fit on a barbie doll and turned it into the coolest Cross stitch thread wrap EVER, as a gift for my mum....as omg that hideous curtain material...she liked it...as green is her thing and cross stitch is what she does best and is currently using an old piece of card, with pencil scribbles on to separate and identify her floss, she is forever getting them mixed up and the flosses are forever tangled and she really needed a better system, so when she said she liked my ugly material and i was in need of a creative project and this seemed like a perfect solution to both our problems. so after lots of umming and ahhing and scribbles on bits of paper and having to sew and unpick and sew and unpick almost every facet at least twice i give you the "super crusty curtains(and shirt) to super Cushty cross stitch wrap gift"

outside embroidery detail; picking out the patten in the curtains i used daisy chain / detached chain stitch to make the flower petals in a variety of colours that matched the inside lining. i used clusters of french knots to make the centres with two different flosses in the needle one a dark and the other pearlescent and accented with some pinks iridescent seed beads to catch the light. then i used stem stitch to make the flower stems. the whole of the front is bordered simply with open chain stitch using a green multicolour pearl cotton.

accessories Panel including two clear pvc pockets, and a three page felt needle book. and a section of elastic to hold items such as a pencil scissors, seem ripper etc. all hand trimmed with blanket stitch in the same matching multi colour thread.
Floss Holders.
the only part of this project that didn't come out of my stash was the metal rings i used to hand the floss on. i chose to use a white background behind the floss so its easier to see the floss colours, but my favourtie part is the the identification system. i used more clear pvc i had in my stash and made a row of tiny clear pockets above each floss ring so that you can slip the relevant key code in them above the floss and it keeps every thing neat and tidy, and when you do the next project they can be taken out and replaced with the new key. along the bottom of the floss section i also put an envelope flap that can be opened with poppers so that any long ends of floss can be tucked in and protected from damage of hanging out of the bottom of the wrap. everything was again hand embroidery trimmed with open chain stitch
Other details
inspired by another craftster's members project, i used poly clay to decorate the heads of 5 pins with daisy's(my favourite flower) to use as stitch markers, return to points so she doesn't keep loosing her place when stitching. she can just pop a daisy in the place and know where she has to come back to. also being a gift for my mother i also bought her a tub of thread heaven. and a gorgeous gold pair of DMC embroidery scissors and some little pots to go in the pockets for keeping beads in, oh and a pencil/ rubber sharpener set, but they aren't really part of the project but they are part of the gift.
that was so much fun to make i want to make one for myself now, and cant wait for the next challenge it was great having a deadline to work towards too
