A loooong time ago my sister picked out some red polka dot fabric and wanted me to make her a halter neck dress.  she picked a pattern, then changed her mind and ended up getting a more expensive, out of print one, Simplicity 3780 which is a reinvention of a vintage pattern (actually I like this one better than the original but it was very annoying to have her change her mind!)

It has a very pretty neckline and gathered bust, I will have to make a version for myself I reckon!

I'm pretty pleased with the invisible zip in the back, though I did find a better way of putting them in next time which I think will help with the puckering at the bottom.  I did have a disaster with this when my overlocker ripped it in the back but I have put some interfacing on the inside and it doesn't look too bad.  It will most likely be covered with a belt anyway.

I also made a sweet little hair clip to go with it from fabric yo-yos, this is the first time I have made them and I really like them!  The cherry button is also on the halter neck strap to fasten it at the back of the neck as it doesn't have long ties like most, which is a feature I like.

Thank you!!  Grin  I found some polka dot in turquoise and pink which I reeeeally want and I am thinking of making the pattern in, though I have seen a lovely blue dotty one online too which is lovely.  It is a really nice pattern and easy to put together.  The bodice is lined with the same fabric as I didn't see any reason to use a different colour and the fabric was cheap.  The white is actually a charity shop cotton skirt that I bought for fancy dress and have used for sooo many projects and its still going!

This is beautiful, so much so I've taken the step from long-time-lurker to actual commenter just to say. It's particularly nice with that neckline, it's not often you get them, the ones that will actually fit boobs nicely!

This has always been one of my favorite Simplicity patterns.  It looks adorable!  I love the fabric you chose!

I've actually been considering using McCall's 4444 to recreate this dress.  Or one darn similar to it (by adding a waist seam and changing the skirt, of course!).

That pattern does look quite similar, it would  be a good one to use if you an't get hold of the Simplicity one.  I'm not great at altering patterns yet but I am slowly getting better Smiley

This is super cute. I made the same pattern but in a blue gingham with a petticoat under the skirt. I had the hardest time where the two bust pieces meet in the middle. But yours looks so wonderful, I wouldn't have guessed you had a problem with the zipper until you pointed it out.

Excellent job.
