This is my first comp entry! eeee!   Grin

teaser pic!:

I couldnt find anything really horrifying in my local Salvation army so I asked the sweet ladies who work in there if they had anything really ugly downstairs and they got really into the idea and we had fun going through a wonderful gold velour legging/crop top set and some revolting pink trousers and then they came up this this gem:

I instantly recoiled in horror and snapped it up for a mere 75p! I also bought a little silk and lace chemise for 3 which I wanted the lace strip from and can use the rest of the chemise for other projects so my grand total cost for this was 3.75 SCORE!

Then when I got this home I found ancient rusty pins IN THE ARMPITS! I couldn't believe it! one was snapped and was pointing right out! I took them out (obviously!) and thought it'd be fun to show you them!

After trying to cope with all this paisley I decided to cut it right back and make it a pretty and quite smart summer evening dress.
It turned out to be way more complicated than I though to completely reshape it, its stretchy synthetic fabric and WAAAH brain melt!
From the front:

and the back:

I had a pretty hard time getting the stretchy lace onto the stretchy synthetic dress and nooo it went a little wonky! argh! Embarrassed

Here is the front detail:

and the back detail:

I was relieved to finish this one its been really fun and taught me a LOT which is what I really wanted to get out of doing this so happy days!  Grin

very open to tips and advice!
Hope you enjoyed looking at this - I enjoyed making it!

Rusty pins!  The horror!  I found pins in a skirt I picked up thrifting once, but they sure weren't rusty.

Kudos to a great reconstruction, that dress is so pretty I wouldn't have believe it came from something so awful if you didn't have the photographic evidence!

I looked at the "before" pic and thought there was no way you were getting something cute out of that! It's not the first time I've been totally wrong. The front detailing looks great, I really like what you did with the neckline.

Fabulous recon! You did a great job, can't believe something that cute could come out of the 'before'.

Those nails were scary!

wow! thank you for the responses! I was feeling a bit unsure of this dress- a friend of mines girlfriend came for dinner so we could meet her and she was SO horrible to me about this dress (and everything tbh!) I didnt even want to finish it. So thank you for boosting my confidence guys! Cheesy

Is it bad that I kind-of like the before dress? It's 20s style looking.. The rusty nails were horrendous though; not to mention dangerous. Of course the after is so much better, and you kept the fabric and the drop-waist shape. I would totally wear it. very nice job.

I like what you did with the lines of lace--the way they carry around to the back.

wow! thank you for your lovely responses! I enjoyed making the lace like that but blimey attaching it was hard!

Its not wrong to like the before dress! lol Grin I could see good things in it when I found it, and the drop waist was really nice too- this would have been a vest top if not for that being on the original!
Its really nice to get such positive feedback! I haven't been putting myself out there for the world for very long- I was chicken for ages and its a lot easier when people are nice about the things you do so thanks again! Cheesy

Well, the good news is that if there were that many pins in the dress, nobody ever wore it.
(Also, those rusty pins would be really cool on an ACEO collage)

Your final project looks cool.  Awesome that the ladies at the thrift were into your project!

lol- thats a good point you have there! I am glad noone ever wore that- I tried it on for a before shot and felt the stabby stab of pins about to break skin and was SUPER careful taking it off again!

It was so fun in the sally army shop with the ladies they were loving it! which reminds me I promised to show them what I did cos they didn't believe anything good could come of this dress! Apparently they'd had it for quite a while! I wish I'd taken pics of some of the other stuff they brought up to show me, there was much hilarity while we were looking at things!  Grin

Whoa! I didn't see THAT coming! I couldn't imagine any loveliness in that.
You really surprised me. You tell that girl that was so negative that she obviously doesn't know style!
But you do!
