I really don't like those ugly plastic dish mats that sit under your dish drain.  They are so ugly and after a short use they get all "yucky".  I switched mine out with a terry backed fabric one that not only is super easy to clean (in the washing machine) but brightens up my kitchen.  Best part - It folds up and is easily tucked away when not in use to free up my counter.

This was super easy to make and you can customize it to any size you like.  I posted a tutorial here: http://sewplicity.blogspot.com/2011/02/tutorial-quick-easy-quilted-dish-mat.html

Thanks for looking!

Oh i really like that idea! I don't sew much but my daughter and I are learning together. I'm with you on the mats, so this is a great solution!

I really like this idea--we lay out paper towels because we don't like the plastic draining mats either, but this would be much less wasteful!

Wonderful idea ! When my daughter's dishwasher broke at Christmas time, she had no drainboard and we had dishes and water everywhere. This would have been the answer !!! Great stocking stuffers  Smiley

This is a great idea!  I bought a plain sponging absorbent dish mat that I really like.  I may have to cover it with some fun fabric.  Thanks for the inspiration.

Lovely idea! Normally I just toss a towel down, but this is much prettier. And I am fond of the pretteh.
