Adhesive? to glue fabric to leatherette

Hello all,

I want to revamp a soft leatherette bag, it is not shiny just smooth. It is too girly/childish/pink for me. I want to cover it all with a woolie fabric (from an old fashion jacket).
What glue do you recomend to use that will stick fabric and plastic? I plan to cut fabric pieces and sew ends so they wont unravel.

I live in Ireland, I will be able to find UK brands.

Getting stuff to stick to vinyl is a pain in the neck. Lots of stuff will stick to wool. Check out This to That http://www.thistothat.com/cgi-bin/glue.cgi?lang=en&this=Fabric&that=Vinyl

I would try spray adhesive. I don't mean the temporary stuff for stencilling, but rather the heavy-duty stuff you can get at hardware and home improvement stores. Remember those old commercials of guys in hardhats gluing their hats to stuff with Krazy glue and dangling from the chin straps? The label on the can of spray adhesive I have says it'll stick pretty much anything to anything else. I replaced the fabric on a mouse pad with it, and it worked beautifully.

To do what you'd like to, I recommend buying a specialized scuffing pad to rough up the smooth surface of the vinyl so that the adhesive will have places to stick into. I got scuffing pads at an automotive supply store, from right beside the spray paints, but you could likely also get them at hardware/home improvement stores. Simply wipe the dust away with a clean, damp cloth, give it a second to dry and then lightly spray with the adhesive. You have about 30 seconds to put the cloth on it, and you have to get it right the first time, because once it's on, it's NOT coming off with any ease.

Just so happens that 3M 77, recommended by This to That, is a spray adhesive

I owed an update. I ended using acetone to take off the design that bothered me from the leatherette. It looked much better in one colour all over.
