Ok...So I decided on a whim that I needed to fill up my extra time that I have currently (ie., I'm unemployed and looking and feeling like a bum...) So, I have previously been a cross stitch-er and was going through the hobby store here and figured, should give that a try after seeing some cool things done with Doctor Who stuff (a new obsession of mine).  So I got some yarn and some hooks and found this pattern: http://thespasticcat.blogspot.com/2009/04/elmo-hat-pattern.html My nephew looooooooves Elmo and I thought, two birds, one stone much?  So this is what I came up with and am dubbing my "first draft" because the hat is WAY too narrow to be worn by him...or any undeformed person but you can tell its a hat and Elmo and for being my first crochet ever...I feel pretty good Cheesy Lemme know what you all think, being the Expert Hookers you all are Wink

Great job!
I admire your bravery at tackling a project which is not a basic square as your first project!

Already started once more! This time I am using a similar pattern but watching this video series...I have realized where I went wrong in the previous hat and this one is going great! I am so excited to see how it turns out!  Grin

I think for a first attempt, you've done well!  It's recognizable as Elmo, and you've got several different things going on - the hat itself, making the eyes and the nose, sewing things on.  You learned a lot in just one project.  I'm glad you're sticking with it!

I can't count the number of times I've been almost done with something, not liked it, and ripped the whole thing apart just to start all over again.

I look forward to your future creations!

Oh, for a whole day I started and just kept ripping it up and starting over, not thrilled with it...Finally, I had to stop myself from doing it anymore or I would never be able to learn from my mistakes!

Sorry I haven't been back! Life just gets away from you! I finished this in the first leg of my trip that day: http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt171/RazyCal/Phone%20Pictures/IMG_20110205_134239.jpg

It is still a bit too big for him but it looks like a hat and Elmo! He loved it!
