A few of my friends knit, which is pretty cool, but right now, I'm not into learning knitting. But we decided I needed a portable craft. I'm a garment sewer (sewist? seamstress?) generally, but that doesn't lend itself to crafting away from home. So, I thought I'd try some embroidery. And I think I'm in love. I now look at any textile in our home - pillowcases, kitchen towels, sheets, my daughter's clothes, you name it- and think about how to make it better with some stitches. So, anyhow, this is one of my first projects:

The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. . . . I would rather have cheese.

Love! This is so pretty! I especially like the doodle-like border. Well done Smiley and I can totally relate to seeing everything around the house in a 'what can I embroider on THAT?' feeling. It's a great feeling.

Thanks everyone. I'm getting a lot of inspiration from here.
As for what it's stitched on, it's actually part of a linen sheet that was part of my mom's hope chest oh so many years ago. She collected all these beautiful bed linens, table linens and such in preparation for her marriage, which I guess was a pretty common practice back then where my parents are from. Some of them she embroidered, some not. We always used them around the house when I was growing up (that's what they were for after all). She has given me a lot of the pieces. This sheet happened to get damaged by moths, so I'm salvaging the parts of it that aren't damaged for various things. This might end up as a pillow or I might just keep it up on the wall.
