Details of swap

PostSecret is a website located at http://www.postsecret.blogspot.com
The idea behind it is to create a postcard, using images, illustrations, paintings, etc., and write or type a secret on it that you want to anonymously share with the world.

The Craftster twist is that your cards need to be creative in addition to being sent to members of our little group. Remember there is no way to guarantee this is 100% anonymous because some people may be able to trace a card back (if they are super super sleuths!), if youd like to protect yourself as much as possible I recommend removing your location from your Craftster profile and temporarily removing your links as well (etsy, Facebook, blogs, etc.). Of course you dont have to do this!

You will be sending 10 cards.

The Anatomy of a Postcard

Your postcard should include at least one image and your secret, which should be written/typed out on the front of the card. Make your cards however you like-- photographs, collage, drawing, painting--or buy postcards and embellish them with your secrets.

You can write a note to the recipient on the back of the card, but that's optional.

Your postcards can all be based around the same secret, or all different. If you use the same secret for multiple cards, the visual part of the card must be different and you must phrase your secret differently. Ideally, you should really use 10 different secrets.

Questionable Content?

Some secrets are not G-rated. I don't want to restrict anyone's freedom of expression, but please realize some people may not want to be exposed to content they may find offensive.

There are many members under 18 on Craftster, and I wouldn't want anyone getting inappropriate content (sexual, violent, etc.) their parents would not approve of.

In the swap questionnaire, I have given you the opportunity to state what themes and images you would prefer not to receive. Please use this space to specify what you do NOT want to receive, the information will be given to those sending to you so they will know what not to send you.

SENDING ANY KIND OF PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. This is a rule set for all swaps on Craftster. Basically, if you would need ID to buy it, don't put it on your postcard.

Privacy

This swap is anonymous; you won't know which postcard is coming from which Craftster member. However, the system isn't perfect. In this swap you will receive a code (like G6, for example and it may be different once your code is assigned) and you will put that assigned code on the bottom left-hand corner of the backside of your postcard (where you would put the address). Please put this on the back of your card, even if it's in an envelope.

If it would ruin your life (or someone else's life) if a fellow Craftster did some Internet detective work and figured out which secret was yours, you probably shouldn't be putting it on a postcard for the world to see. This isn't the place to admit you committed a felony or anything.

And if you are one of those people who can't possibly live without doing the detective work, please keep that information to yourself and don't ruin a fun swap for the rest of us.

If you're really worried about someone matching up the postmark on the card with your name, you could send your postcards from a town near yours, from your work, etc.

Or if you feel like being super-sneaky, you can have your cards postmarked at the North Pole:
North Pole Postmarks

Shipping

There are no DC numbers for this swap, since they cannot be put on a postcard. When you send your cards, you MUST get a receipt from the post office and you MUST e-mail a scan or photo of the receipt to the organizer. Therefore, if you don't have access to a scanner or digital camera, you cannot join this swap.

You must be willing to ship internationally.

You may mail your cards in envelopes if you want them to be a little more protected.

Absolutely do not forget your code!

Receiving

Half of the fun of this swap is looking over the gallery daily to see all the secrets that have been sent. Please make sure that you have access to a scanner or camera so that you can share the postcards with the rest of us. Pictures absolutely must be posted in a timely manner!! We need to be able to see postcards that have been received.

As soon as you do receive you need to PM me and tell me the code on the back of the card so I can mark appropriate members accordingly.

Feedback

Positive feedback will be assigned when you have
  • PMd proof of sending your cards
  • Have PMd the codes from ALL the cards you have received
  • Photos of ALL cards you received have been posted in the gallery

NOTE:While I can not withhold a "positive feedback" for failure to post photos, it will be noted in comments that you did not follow the swap guidelines.

Sending Late

If something happens that prevents you from sending your cards on time, that's OK--life happens! Just PM me before the deadline, and e-mail your receipt when you send. If you don't ship by the deadline and I haven't heard from you, I will be forced to assume you're not sending and will have to leave negative feedback until you've sent (and can prove it).

Flaking

Of course we don't want flakers! We can (and will!) be keeping track of all secrets sent by the codes you will be putting on them. If you forget a code, we cannot just accept your word for it. You absolutely must remember to put your code on it or have a picture of your secret before you sent so we can match to the rec'd secret.

Please take pictures of your secrets so that if someone flakes, they can still be posted (anonymously).

Pictures

When posting your received secrets in photos, you must photograph each one individually - so that means no "group shots." A group shot has 2 or more cards in the photo. Because trying to fit 2+ cards into the picture is hard, it makes it near impossible to get a good representation of the cards. Remember, this is first and foremost a craft forum and a craft based swap. Your cards should be 100% crafty with effort noticeable and the pictures should show the hard work the secret-sender put into it (as well as their secret) since they are not able to post their pictures themselves. Also, PLEASE cover the code of the person who sent the card when taking photos to post.

Comments in the Gallery

Comments will be allowed.
However, when posting the pictures of the secrets you receive you have to hold your comments for a separate post. So that means: No comments in any posts with pictures. This is to make it easier for members not wishing to read any comments to search with the "View Images Only" option. Yes, you can post your pictures and immediately post again with your comments to your own post.

*Note: You will not receive Negative feedback for not following the above rules, however it will be reflected in the comments of your feedback that you did not follow the directions of the swap when asked.

do the images on the front of the post card have to reflect the secret on the back? some of my "secrets" would be hard to find a way to make them visual (or maybe i'm not creative enough) also the pornographic issue  - are vintage (tasteful) nudes allowed?

The images on the front can be anything you'd like. You could paint it, cover it in paper, add stickers, whatever you like. If it happens to go with you secret, thats even better!

There have been nude type secrets before, nothing too revealing though. There is an option in the questionnaire to not receive any nudity. So, I would say, censor it if possible and be sure to check the recipients preferences before sending.

Also, generally the secret is on the front along with the image (though not always).

could i request secrets sent to me on the reverse? to me that adds a bit more mystery. if i join i will want to bind my recd secrets in a book to display and show others. i just think looking at the picture on the front and then thinking about what it could mean and then read the secret on the back. kind of like when you get a post card from your aunt bertha vacationing in rome and you get a lovely postcard of the beautiful marble bath house she visited and on the back she writes "uncle frank and i had a orgasmic time here" and you think WOW aunt bertha that is a secret no niece should have to picture lol

i actually have kind of brainstormed and come up with some secrets that have a good foundation for an awesome card front.

You could put it in your questionnaire, but some people craft their cards ahead of getting partners, so it wouldn't be guaranteed.

BTW, That was HILARIOUS!  Cheesy

I could have completely missed this, but how many secrets/post cards would you be sending out?
