My first swap was the Scrappy String Quilt Block Swap coordinated by Kittymom13. After receiving 28 lovely blocks and all of the scrappy extras, my 8 y/o daughter and I oohhed and aahhhed over each block. We kept arranging and arranging them trying to figure out how to sew them all together. I made 6 more blocks mixing the scraps I received with my own scraps. I didn't have enough of any one fabric to put a border around each square so my 8 y/o had the idea to use up the scraps I had left. The girl is a genius! After sewing a few rows I made the comment that it definitely looked different than anything I had ever done. She pipes up with "Yea, I always make my pictures different at school." I asked her, "How do you do that?" She says, " I color outside the lines." Haha, I think she meant she also colors the backgrounds of her pictures. Life is so simple when your 8. I thought it a fitting title for this quilt though!
Sorry so long winded I just thought it was cute what she said.
Onto the pics!!

Not sure I like the last row all red. It really looks unbalanced, but I'm not about to pick em all off!! So there she stays.

Close up of some of the quadrants.

I have to get some batting and some backing fabric yet, but I'm exciting to hang it up!!!
The one thing I really loved about this swap was flipping the squares over and seeing how everyone's machine sewed differently and the change of threads in the middle of the blocks!! They are truly scrappy!!!

I really love this!  I love how colorful it is!  Plus, the beginning of quilts used the scraps instead of all coordinating fabrics!!   Cheesy  How sweet that you sew with your daughter!  I wish my mom had been around to do stuff like this with!

Thank you!! I try to get all of my kids to do something crafty. I used to sew with my mom when I was little. There are days I wish she was still around to give me advice. My mom was the master crafter Smiley

Great job on putting your quilt top together, tynwia!  You and your daughter...=]
I like the effect with the borders, too.  Keep crafting together and creating memories w/your little one.

What fun!  Maybe  I'll start piecing mine together today -- your daughter has inspired me to color outside the lines!
