This is a project I started months ago when an old friend had her new baby girl.
It stayed buried under a pile of stuff for a while but I finally decided to finish it.

I wanted to make a small 8 pages book with cute animals in it.
I started with some sketches (the pic only shows the designs I decided to keep but there was more):

Then I cleaned them up in photoshop and digitized them for machine embroidery:

And here's the book, with her baby's name on it:

I'll be sending it soon, I hope the baby likes it!

Great job.
What program did you use to digitise them?

No, I'll offer them for free on my tutorials blog soon.
I'd rather not sell them because the files aren't really professional level.
DraWings doesn't let me tweak the digitizing by hand. I'm only using it because I'm familiar with Corel Draw.

I love these! The little snail especially. Smiley I also love the colors that you used, not as eye-wateringly bright as most childrens stuff... Really pretty!

And another technical question: Sorry if this seems daft, but how did you "clean up" your sketches in Photoshop? I've got some sketches that I would love to play around with, but I have no idea how to go from sketches to those nice, clean lines... I'm a total Photoshop newb!  Roll Eyes If you could point me in the direction of a tute or anything that would be amazing!

You put your sketch on a layer as reference and you use the pen tool to trace it on another layer.
There's a detailed tutorial on the pen tool here:
http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tools-tips/photoshops-pen-tool-the-comprehensive-guide/

Search for Photoshop Pen Tool tutorials and you'll find many more.

You can also do it with other illustration software like Illustrator, CorelDraw or Manga Studio.

This is really awesome. I love the personality in all of your little characters.

Also, for those people wanting to digitize stuff but don't have fancy software or money for it, I use Inkscape. It is free and the Trace Bitmap feature is AMAZING once you learn how to use it. There are tutorials all over the internet and some particularly good ones on youtube.

I sound like I work there or something Tongue I don't, I just love it and want to share that love!

The new mother would surely be happy to receive your gift.  It's not just cute and baby friendly, it came from the heart.  The point that you made an effort to make this gift for her baby is already wow.  The pictures are really nice.
