Crafter's block...errrrr!!! Angry I sat down with the blanks...and my mind took a liking to the 'blank' idea, and went....blank. Undecided

Forgive me, but I have a question. What is gesso? It keeps coming up in the posts, but I have never heard of it. I tried looking it up , but no dice. Just curious.

When this happens to me I do free association writing. Take a pad of paper and write out one word. For instance an important word from the theme of your partner's puzzle, then write down the next word that pops into your brain, without questioning yourself. Write the next word, and the next, until you feel the light bulb go on.

Gesso is a thick, white paint that primes a canvas for more paint. It the case of puzzle pieces, it coats the piece and keeps it from absorbing paint in odd ways and gives a "blank" canvas.

I didn't even think about adding gesso to the puzzle pieces...that's a really good idea!

Hopefully I'll start on some of the puzzle pieces this weekend. I've been sketching ideas during lectu...I mean whenever I have some free time. Smiley

I bought some gesso last week and used it for the first time on the pieces I've been receiving. I'm glad I did, it makes for a very nice surface.

gesso is awesome! it actually has a gel base and can be used for image trasfers among other things. you put it on your image and let it dry then wash off the image from the back. you then have a semi-transparent image that looks a little like a sticker. the image has to be from a liquid printer not powder base so things like magazines are good.
it comes in different strengths, colors and glossy or matte varities. i always just look for the cheapest ones since it can be expensive! the one that i bought this time was clear so it is perfect for image transfering.

i plan to do some crafting this weekend. seems my stash is all outta whack and it's really overwhelming so i may have to organize before i start just to clear my head (and craft area a bit).

love the free association idea shylitlegoddess! i am totally going to try that!
