my boyfriend and i have been wanting to do this project for a while and we finally got around to it. it was so easy that i regret we didnt do it ages ago! we just took a colander and cut a hole out of the bottom with a jigsaw, then stuck a hanging lamp fixture (taken from an old lamp we didnt like anymore) and stuck in in there with a decorative bulb. easy peasy, and it looks lovely lit at night. not that you can really tell from my crappy pictures......

oh, and behind it is the shade i made from repurposed mini blinds in a previous project- http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=321300.msg3704110#msg3704110
which also arent done any favors by my crappy photography  Roll Eyes

I've been wanting to do this for a long time, too!  I have the colander and miscellaneous metal kitchen bits (beaters from a defunct mixer, forks) to do it with.  The wiring and cutting intimidate me, but I'm thrilled to see you tackled it.  Our current kitchen lamp is a hideous thing from c. 1980 that resembles the style Pizza Hut had for years and years.  I'd love to replace it.  Was it hard to reuse the lamp wiring?

well, i took the lamp bits from a pre-existing hanging lamp, so there was no re-wiring required. i literally cut a hole in the colander, pulled the cord through it, and plugged it in. sounds like you might be using bits from a table lamp maybe? if so, that may be a bit more complicated, cant help you there  Undecided  but i know exactly the kind od pizza hut lamp youre taking about, ha ha! get rid of that dusty old thing, you'll be so happy when you replace it with one of these!
