I don't know of any particular organizations, but most women's shelters are always in need of something, so I'm sure if you called any in your area they could tell you what would be most useful.

True. Good thought. I recently moved so I didn't think of that.

The Woman's Club in my area donates a lot to an abused woman's shelter.  Try calling one in your area.  Also, the national Woman's Club in Washington, DC can help you out.

try checking locally.  I would think some things that might come in very handy would be handmade stuffed toys for kids, greeting/ holiday/ birthday cards, things like handcrafted soaps, quilts, warm goodies like hats and scarves (well, unless you're in warm climates LOL), handmade journals, clothing like tshirts or baby stuff....
Mostly, these women have very little because they are often lucky to leave these situations with their children and their lives. So I would think a shelter would be lucky to find a crafter to 'adopt' some of the women.

I just found this charity online, they collect handmade "comfort dolls" for abused women.
