Wool for felting

If any of you do felting, where do you get your wool roving from? I have been to three craft/fabric stores in SD and no one has any idea what I'm talking about when I ask for it. I can order online, I was just hoping to get some this weekend. What kind of stores sell it?

I'm confused.  I just made a felted bag out of wool yarn, and I've seen roving, which I thought was the material that you could spin to make yarn.  I know for sure that you can get wool yarn at any yarn store, Michaels, and JoAnns.  I'm under the impression that you really can't go to a store to get roving, that you need to know a distrubitor or order it online.  Sorry I'm not more of a help.

I'm looking for the roving, to make beads with. I guess I will order it online though, Michael's and JoAnn's both didn't have it.

My local Yarn Stoe (LYS) has roving that can be spun or felted.  Check your phone book under Fibers or (sometimes) Fabrics for a yarn store near you.

Check with local needlework stores, like those you'd find cross-stitch/needlepoint/crewel supplies and kits.  Some of the better stocked ones around me (TN) carry dyed roving.

I've bought roving in stores before, but have also had great success getting it on ebay.  if you are new to working with roving, i suggest merino wool to start.

Sometimes you have to ask your LYS, as they may have undyed roving hidden, such as at the one I frequent. I haven't dyed mine yet, but once I get my new needle felting tool in the mail this week, I'm sure I'll break out the kook-aid.

Are there any farms near you? My family's doing a workshare on a sheep farm in exchange for organic produce this summer, and I know there are many others out here (I'm in Wisconsin). I'd recommend calling your state fair organizers for leads on sheep farms unless you're somewhere you know for sure wouldn't have that kind of farm.
