Q: Prepare a wall to paint (?)

So I'm thinking of re-painting my bedroom wall in some colors, and I gathered some info about how to do it lately. It says that I should sand off the surface before I paint it.

I just wanna ask that do I reallyneed to sand the whole old paint of the wall off so the new paint will stick in. It seems like a lot of work to do = =!!!, what about just clean it all up with some clean damp cloth and paint it?

If you guys have any advices or suggestions you would like to tell me, please do. I will love that

A: Normally you don't need to sand the old paint off. (This can be harmful if the paint is lead) The sanding is so you have a smooth surface for the new paint to adhere to. To do this you can run a fine grit sandpaper over the walls not to remove the paint just to sand it down a bit. OR, you can just run your hands over the walls and sand any bumps or stains, oily spots etc. Then, wipe down the walls with a damp rag starting at the top. Definitely remove the switch plate covers and tape off what you're not going to paint (such a pain) but an even bigger pain is getting started and having to stop to avoid baseboards, doors and lights you dont want to paint. Trim in the baseboards and ceiling (two coats) first, then roll.
