Thankfully the crock pot does most of the work!

Ingredients:
9 medium apples (I used golden delicious)
2 1/2 cups apple cider
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
dash salt

Core and dice apples into chunks, leaving the peel ON.  Place in crockpot with apple cider and cook on low for 10 hours (I did mine overnight, it was a great smell to wake up to)

in the meantime sterilize jars for 10 minutes in boiling water.  The apple butter is not processed in a pressure cooker or water bath so sterilizing your jars is really important.

then in small batches puree apple mix in blender (hot liquids expand in the blender so don't fill more than 1/4 full it will explode)

Return mix to crockpot

and add sugar and spices and stir til combined.

Cook on low for 5 more hours.
Cool for 1 hour then ladle into jars and eat away.

I like mine on biscuits and pound cake and even by the spoonful.  Heck I'll eat it anywhere.
Great for Christmas/Hannukah gifts or be selfish like me and keep it all for yourself.
Thanks for looking!

How did you get my spices out of my cupboard?  Huh   I have those exact same brands! LOL

I love me some apple butter! Your jars are super cute. Smiley

Any hints on how you might do this without a blender??  I guess just mash the heck out of it, though I don't know if you would be able to get the consistency that way...

I love to hit garage sales and thrift stores to find jars, I just scrub them and boil them with I get them home.
I was almost embarassed to put a pic of the spices up I know there's a lot of purest out there who only like the real deal but sometimes laziness prevails. Smiley

Feh, fancy spices. Beth, what's important is that tasty end product! Wink

The hand sieve that you have pictured is also known as a food mill. I don't have one so I used my immersion blender with great results. Smiley

That sort of thing happens to me constantly as a foreign language teacher. I'll have a mental picture of a door but I can't think of the word in English. It's on my tongue in French instead. LOL
