I have just recently been brave enough to try shirring, after a few failed attempts on practice fabric I felt ready to use actual fabric to make a dress for my daughter.  The fabric doesn't stretch all the way back out,  but it is still big enough to fit her, this summer anyways.   I had a few issues with the front bodice, the V was too deep, hence the modesty panel, and the straps are a little too far apart (because the V is too deep)  but these are all things I have learned for next time.  She loves to run around in it, but she is a climber/explorer and dresses aren't that practical, but she looks so cute in them.  Thnaks for looking and I'd love to hear your thoughts :-)

That's very cute, and you'd never know the neckline was a fix-up rather than planned.

Cute dress. I like the fabric. I agree, the added panel doesn't look like a fix-up. Good job!

Thanks, yes it is my own pattern, which is why the top is a little funny, I made it up as i went along while DD was napping. eded more fitting/tweaking before being sewn together.

When I tried it on her before the piece in front, her little chest was hanging out all over the place :-P

Wow! You did a great job on the shirring - I myself am scared to touch that stuff. I will one day, but not today! Smiley The modesty panel is fantastic. Great job mom!

That fabric is so pretty. What a lovely summer dress. Great job on the smocking.

Mine too, she has several pair of bloomers in neutral colours to wear under skirts to hide he bright red cloth nappies.  She tends to get her knees caught on the bottoms of her dresses when climbing so they are saved for days out when no parks are involved Smiley
